Arpeggio of Blue Steel – Gadget Anime Review

In the year 2039, global warming has caused a sudden rise in sea level, leading mankind to lose a great deal of land territory. At the same time, a fleet of mysterious warships clad in mist, known as the “Fleet of Fog,” begin to appear throughout the world’s seas, attacking humanity’s warships with their powerful superweapons. Humanity threw all the military strength it possessed at the Fleet of Fog in a decisive battle, but was crushed by the fleet’s overwhelming might…

Similar to the currently popular game Kantai Collection, Arpeggio is full of cute girl personifications of battleships! The anime is great in terms of timing, since they will be able to attract all of the fans interested in the Kantai game…

I personally don’t think the CG characters are as cute, but the battles and background are much more impressive this way.

A heated naval battle from the beginning! Knowledgeable viewers tend to be a bit critical of mistakes on real weapon and ship data, so they might have to be careful. It’s rare to see the characters being made in full CG. It looks like there will be one girl for each vessel, but with the dark coloring I wasn’t too drawn to the characters. The setting was a bit questionable to me, and I’m not sure if the story will get more interesting from here. Just as I was thinking that this would be compared to Kantai Collection, a commercial ran for the game…I lol’d.

It looks similar to the popular Kantai Collection game, so great timing on their part. Even more so if they manage to collaborate together. Recently anime with a weapon+girl theme has been popular, so this on will probably do well. The content of this anime is very solid though. Even though we don’t know the reason for the attacks yet, we do know why the world has become the way it is, and the art is well done. Partly CG anime in the past have had some mismatch between the background and the characters, but there is no such mismatch here. I will continue to watch this anime.

A CG anime from Sanzigen. I had heard about Kantai Collection getting an anime version but this was done quickly…wait, it’s a different series? The anime is made with CG, but it is easy to watch. The draw is mainly the naval battles, so CG is ok! This genre is one that I hadn’t paid much attention to before, but I might jump on the bandwagon and watch this series.
